For our wedding reception we served the obvious wedding cake, but along with it we had our caterer (DECO) serve Almond Kringler Bars. Her recipe is one of the best we’ve ever had …. until now! Our dear friend Laurie found this recipe and made these for us during a recent stay at her home. I’ve tried several online recipes prior to this trying my best to get to something that was similar. This is it …. they melt in your mouth with sweetness and almond flavor. We have found though that they taste even better the second day after being refrigerated. Try this recipe today!

Crust Ingredients:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 cup butter, softened
  • 1 tsp almond extract

Filling Ingredients:

  • 8 oz cream cheese, room temperature
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp almond extract

Frosting Ingredients:

  • 1 1/2 cups powdered sugar
  • 3 tbsp butter, softened
  • 1 1/2 tsp half-n-half
  • 1 tsp almond extract
  • Slivered Almonds

Directions:

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  2. Mix crust ingredients together by cutting in the flour and sugar into the butter and extract until mixture is crumbly and pulling together. Pat into the bottom of a 9×13 baking pan. Bake 20 minutes.
  3. Meanwhile, add all filling ingredients together in a mixing bowl. Beat until smooth. As soon as the crust comes out of the oven, pour FILLING ingredients over the crust. Return to oven and bake an additional 15-20 minutes. The center should be set and should not wiggle. Cool completely.
  4. When crust and filling have completely cooled; whisk together the frosting ingredients except the slivered almonds. You can substitute the half-n-half with milk, but do not substitute with heavy cream. When the frosting mixture is smooth, spread over the cooled bars. Immediately sprinkle slivered almonds over the frosting and gently push down slightly into the frosting. Cover pan and refrigerate overnight. To serve, cut bars into 1 x 3-inch portions.
